Mould could grow on you too sweet pea! Nah, looks like the walls are crying - get something bright and cheerful and FOREWARD! Tally ho and all that.
Paint them a gorgeous colour you want to wake up to then distress them.

If/when you do paint them there is a product that seals the wall first so it doesn't seep through. (Sayeth the reluctant home renovator),
